People are very much enamored with the subject of Biblical prophecy. Countless numbers of books and articles have been authored over the past several decades purporting to explain and delineate how ancient prophecies are being fulfilled before our very eyes in the unfolding of current world affairs. Entire ministries have been founded and established in exceedingly large numbers whose sole and specific impetus is to extrapolate on the theme of prophetic fulfillments in our modern world. In the overwhelming majority of cases, these ministries fail to understand basic truth regarding the factual identity of Israel and are thus totally incapable of rendering a proper interpretation of the prophetic utterances of Scripture. Another dominant characteristic of todays prophecy commentators and expositors is that they almost unanimously proclaim that the return of Christ and the corresponding end of the age are just over the immediate horizon of time. Yes, since the era of Darby Schofield et al, pre-millennial eschatology has been the dominant doctrinal standard in so-called Bible believing circles. Is it possible, however, that there has been yet another coup de etat in this vital field of Biblical studies? Have we even been allowed to consider the plausibility of another view of millennialism other than that which has been popularized in the churches and seminaries to the point of virtual monopoly status? Have many prophesies of Daniel, Matthew 24, Luke 21, and the Revelation actually been fulfilled in the events of the first century A.D., specifically the sacking and destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.? What practical consequences and implications would derive from a discovery that such was indeed the case? Have modern Christians become neutralized in their belief that the "end of the world" is nigh hand? We intend to sound the depths of these questions and ponderances that the truth of our covenant God might be better established in the midst of His people.
